The good news is that Tabi has been implanted with the first cochlear implant and is doing well. The operation was a sucess and now we need to just give her time to adjust to the new impulses and learn to start talking.
Thanks so very very much to everyone who helped raise funds and get Thabi implanted, this is a miracle that will be with her for the rest of her life, thanks to amazing people like you.

We would like volenteers to assist us with our vision to create a self service site dedicated to helping people who need to raise funds for implants, share knowledge and provide support to those in need. The site will be completely community driven and will enable people to help one another.

we need your help!!!
This
little girls name is Nthabiseng Hlongoanne and she desperately needs a Cochlear implant
to enable her to have a normal life. She is severely hearing impaired and has been
wearing
hearing aids for 4 years now with no real positive effect. Her
father James was given work as a maintenance assistant and a place of haven in one
of the rooms on the school premises at Eduplex where Nthabiseng attends school on
a bursary fund.
To be blunt Nthabiseng is really not able to communicate with the world around her
although she is a real chatter box no one can really understand what she is saying
and of course she can not understand us.

As you can imagine with such limited funds it is impossible for James to afford to put Thabi on medical aid never mind pay for a Cochlear implant which costs around R 154,000.00 ($21,568.63 / £10,860.37 / €16,142.56) each. We therefore ask for help in paying for her monthly Discovery Hospital Plan that we would like to put her onto and to assist in raising funds to getting her implanted.
Just imagine life without hearing the words 'I love you' or the sounds of music, birds, TV and all the other things we take for granted!!!

Our goals

| 1 | Raise R80,000.00 rand so that we can get Thabi implanted right away. Someone has offered to match what we raise to buy the implant which we estimate to cost around R 160,000.00. We will then also need to look at the hospital costs but at least she will not lose out on a year of not learning to hear and talk. |
| 2 | Raise enough money to put Thabi and her dad on medical aid to which will cover R 100,000.00 of the implant which leave a short fall of R 60,000.00 and cover the hospital costs. The only down side is she will have to wait at least one full year before she can be implanted meaning she loses a year. |
St Andrews
Thanks to the super house ‘Selborne’ at St Andrews School for Girls who have choosen Nthabi seng as their Fundraising project for this year. Thank you for having us girls, we had a lovely time. Nthabi and Jordi love their St Andrews bears! They think you girls are the Bee’s Knee’s. All the best and thanks again for your time and your effort, I know Nthabi will not be able to thank you enough! Have a great night at your supper... BEHAVE!!!
SMS Campaign
In another effort to raise money we have
setup an SMS campaign. This is how it works, you SMS the word
help to 36100 at a cost of R5.00.
Of this R2.78 will be donated to Thabi and the remaining
R2.22 goes to the various service providers. The idea is that people will forward
the message on and hopefully it will cause a chain reaction and we will be able
to raise ectra funds this way.
Credits so far 83,400 which converted means R 83.40.

Where will your money go?
- Into an account opened in James's (Thabi's dad) name and Kerry and I will have power of attorney and internet access to manage and monitor the account
- Money will be deducted monthly to pay the medical aid instalments
- Pay any excess not covered by the medical aid
- If there is any money left it will be used to cover ongoing expenses
- If all goes well we will then attempt Thabi's second implant
Medical and other news
Latest Update:
Besides getting her on a medical aid which will cover the hospital bills, one of
the largest medical aids will pay R 100,000.00 towards the implant device, which
means we will be short of around R 54,000.00 ($7,563.03 / £3,808.18 / € 5,660.38)
so we will really need you your help please. The other thing is that a bill was
passed which stops us from pre-paying the required pre-condition term so that she
does not have to wait a year but can get implanted as soon as we have the money.
We would like to talk to the underwriters to see how we can change this or work
around it.
Previous:
A number of medical aid companies have informed us that they will pay for the implant
to a degree or hopefully in full but of course there are conditions. From what we
have found out so far the main condition is that the person must be a member for
at least a year. So we would like to raise enough money to pay for Thabi and her
Dad to be on the relevant medical aid scheme that will cover the implant and hospital
bills. Apart from that we would also like to raise funds for any excess costs not
covering implant and the ongoing therapy, equipment repairs, batteries etc.

This
site was originally created for our daughter Jordan to raise funds for her Cochlear
Implants as she was severely hearing impaired and even with hearing aids could not
hear a thing. With the help of great family and friends, Discovery Health (health-plan) and donations
from many other sources, Jordan has had both ears implanted and hears very well
now. She is a very happy child listening and talking like you can not believe. The
implant is truly a miracle and has given her a chance at a normal life in a world
full of sounds.
This site is now dedicated to helping raise money for Nthabiseng (Thabi for short) who is Jordan's best friend at Eduplex, so please read on and assist in make a life changing event take place.
